GUTTED!

so last night we put the wheel back together and i accidentally slipped the spanner. chipped the laquer off the rim Laughing

this left me with the task of taking the rim back apart and stripping all the lacquer off it again. im confused as to why the lacquer wont stick very well to the stainless steel - so im looking into why that is - here is a shot of the wheel before i took it apart - exactly the look i wanted too.

if you dont do it properly, dont do it at all!

did you clean the stainless properly before you lacquered it? get something like tetrosyl thinners and get rubbing mate

i did make the mistake of rubbing down with white spirit go get all the crap off before using the laquer, maybe that had an adverse effect?

white spirit will leave it greasy so yeah that would stop the laquer sticking, you need to use a good thinners to wipe it down with

good recommend, get some paint thinners, the trade stuff in a gallon tin, and wipe off all the dust and stuff with that, then dry wipe it (make sure you get rid of all of it, this can have a similar effect to white sprit, if you spill it on new paintwork, it will wash away like water!), and then most importantly get some 'panal wipe' on it, the stuff they use to wipe bodywork over with before you spray, or even better, a tack cloth

look really good mate, ive got steel split rims on my jeep, fancy giving them a go? lol! i know how long it take to get a nice job, ive tried it! Laughing
