Hi guys,

Was just wondering as to whether you guys know any reputable garages that take on any gearbox work?

I've been passed on a few times now as I believe no one wants the work as most garages outsource the gearbox work to specialist gearbox companies during which they have a gearbox-less car in the garage taking up space that could be used for easier repairs.

I think the synchro's in my gearbox have gone, due to it being difficult to engage gears 3,4,and 5, and sometimes getting some crunching if i push the gear through.

Basically, i'm a ballpark figure for a proper diagnosis, removing and refitting the box, and rebuilding the box if necessary.

The car is a 1999 Civic VTI-S 5dr, using a retrofitted Integra type R gearbox (which mates to this engine fine as it is a b series block).

A donor box is not an option unless it is a post 1998 S80 integra type r gearbox as i want to retain these gear ratios.

I'm located in Shoreham, but will travel anywhere in sussex/su ...

Cool, sounds like a good un then. Nice that theres not many mods means you can change it to your own taste!!

How old are you if you don't mind me asking, as there are some insurers, but they won't touch you if your under 25 .... A-Plan, Norwich Union & Pace Ward being 3 I can think of. If age isnt a problem then get a call over to Pace Ward, they do the specialist insurance for MLR, with trackday cover. Also try - Sky, Warwick Davis, Keith Micheals, Elephant.

GT-SS or something like that - Personally I'd have a word with a specialist that may want to create something hybrid to be specifically suited to your engine.

Does anyone know if we get discounts, as a club, with any brake suppliers? I was thinking of using Balance Motor Sport at Golding Barn unless anyone can think of a more competitive supplier.

Afraid not Andy, there's only a few brake suppliers in sussex afaik, none that are specialist?.

I have an airbag light fault with my car. Been to the main dealer once who charged a ridiculous hourly rate just to tell me they'd need it longer to work out what the issue was.

Not too confident in their competence or particularly happy with the service so would rather take it to a local reasonably priced specialist who could get me a more definitive answer.

Does anyone know of a local (Crawley area) car electrician they would recommend?

Thanks in advance for any help. Oh No!

Took the actuator off today and wastegate is not faulty.
There have been no new mods to the car.
It all started on the M3. The car was running fine. I turned off the motorway went over the bridge and rejoined going the opposite direction. From that point on the car will not boost. There is no smoke from the exhaust so i dont think it could be the turbo Rolling Eyes
I have found a split pipe which has been repaired. There is no other visible split or missing pipes or noises of air escaping from anywhere.
Not really technically minded so could you guide me towards cleaning the boost solenoid/doing a reset as I want to eliminate as many possibilities before I get it to a garage.
I have found a guy who is supposed to be a subaru specialist in worthing, Paul Terry (if anyone knows of him??) but he cannot look until Thursday.

Forgot to mention its a 2001 UK WRX.

I'm looking for a EG Civic specialist who i can throw a few tenners at to tell me whats wrong with mine.

I could go replacing everything but i don't have the money or resources to do so, so would rather spend 30-40 and save 80-100 on parts trying to fix it.

I don't however want someone to say, 'well it could be this, or this, or maybe even this' as i know of almost everything it could, or couldn't be.

To give an outline, this issue only happens when its warm, and basically if i stick my foot down theres just nothing there, like a misfire or its being starved of fuel and jerks the car in the process.

Replaced the spark plugs earlier and made no difference at all, also had a quick poke around and nothing is obviously corroded, lose or broken.

it may well be the top mounts on the strut, these are quite noisey when they go, the best thing to do is get it to a specialist, have someone have a good look over it, you could end up replacing the whole suspension system and not sort it, so have someone have a look at it.

the easiest is check for bubbles in the coolant, this is signs of sealant failure

one of many signs, yes. Smile

Mine had ~8bar across all tips on both rotors when i got it, but that alone isn't a good enough indication of a good engine... but low figures are a sign of a bad engine.. if you get what i mean.

A good engine can still go pop with no warning, even wih good comp figures..

Any more would require a specialist to check out as so many people think they know about RX7s and really dont.

wise words... I've only pick up a few tips from my research and short period of ownership... I know knowt really!

As i am now on my second after i had a Supra TT and i can honestly say that theses are the best of the Jap cars for driving pleasure. The single biggest thing you can have to protect yourself is a full service history from a specialist. If he is serious he should buy from the likes of Newera Imports or WGT as they know them inside out.

In terms of the car the things to be looking out for are things like over the top mods. In particular single turbos that were fitted before they came into this country as the ECU (if upgraded) will have been programmed for higher ron fuel and also if the ECU wasnt then even worse as you would need one ASAP. In an ideal world you would go for a simply modified car consisting of wheels, induction, exhaust, ecu, 99 rear lights (look much better) and dump valve. Any more would require a specialist to check out as so many people think they know about RX7s and really dont.

If it is close to 65000 miles and hasnt had an engine rebuild then get the pr ...
