Right Folks, it was bound to happen, I have another mx5 to do as a project car.
At the moment, I have this mx5, which is nearly how I want it

I had been looking for another project car for the last few months and following rotorstock was getting tempted by a fd rx7.
Trouble is my silver mx5 is quick so dont really need another car that will empty my wallet at the local filling station.
In the end I have gone for another mx5.
This one is more marmite then my other one. You will either love it or hate. I have been thinking about trying to get hold of one of these for a while. Most have been too expensive or I have just missed out on them.
I looked at this car the other day and walked away as thought the price was too high for what needed doing. This price came down yesterday and I now own another mx5.
It is:

thanks for the comments, the centre radio console was from a firm called zoom eng in japan. think they only do mx5 parts.
its run 16-9 on the back and 16-18.5 on the front. think this helps get the power down a bit easier and gives me more grip.
should have the extra 52mm gauges fitted in a couple of weeks, got the upgrade mk2.5 sport disc brake conversion waiting to be fitted but need the goodrich hoses and some new pads to complete that job.
The chap who did the new engine electronics on this is building a bored out 1.8 VVT engine and adding a turbo and a lot of hidden bits etc. estimated power on this will be 350bhp in a car he plans to keep looking stock. |

most of you have seen my car by now and almost as many have had a passenger ride.
some of you may have noticed i had some white oz cronos on last night that i think really sets the car off and gives it the look im after,
all opinions welcome good or bad,
only person i've found so far who has said they dont like is my other half

Looking at your bay, i would say you have the standard ct20 turbo, standard intercooler, plus a few breathing and exhaust mods, With a boost controller, fcd, and a fuel computer, if thats one i see in your ashtray, cant quite make it out, you could make between 280 and 300 maybe more i am not quite sure, rev3's are about 240-260 as standard anyway, and its not hard to increase that with fairly minimal effort or expense, plus with the ct20 you can up the boost to 18 psi quite happily, although you need a decent intercooler so you dont melt pistons etc, and a fcd otherwise you will not make over 12psi. You have the advantage over me because you have a turbo that is more capable, and bigger injectors, and the head work is a bit different too, thats what gives you the extra kick.

The meguiars clay is just a detailing so its not coarse at all, one thing you do have to make sure is that you spray plenty of the quick detailer on otherwise the clay grips and you dont want that!!!
this thread is very helpful, a little long wided at 20 pages long but he gives some good tips and the results are astounding!!

sorry reading that back it did come across a bit moody but that weren't my intention!
A lot of the guys I spoke to at Rotorstock, and Carl at Haywood Rotary recommended staying standard until needed. But I have no doubt It would make a massive improvement over stock I hear it almost gets rid of the transition flatspot just over 4200? and gives smoother running throughout like you say.
What did it cost to get it fitted and mapped by reworx if you dont mind me asking? After hearing jays with a de-cat I'm likeing the idea of wakeing the neighbours at 2 in the morning.. |
