Calendar Event: Saturday September 13, 2008

Organised by Brighton & Hove Motor Club, the National Speed Trials are the original, the first motoring event to have started in Madeira Drive; the one which set the precident which the rest have followed.

The event dates back to 1905. In fact, Madeira Drive was resurfaced for the then-new tarmac material especially so that the first speed trials could take place.

Where all the other events end in the Drive, and vehicles are for the most part stationary, the centre of attraction at the Speed Trials is speed!

The Speed Trials are the 100 metre sprint of the motor racing world. The distance is just a quarter of a mile, and so not long after the drivers get up to speed they looking to brake.

But it's not just about speed. The Brighton Speed Trials include everything from vintage to modern motorcycles and their equivalents on four wheels.

A fantastic event for competitors, spectators and general motorsport enthusiasts, join us for this unique and historical event where you can both mingle amongst the machinery and get to sample the action at close quarters.

A good one for testing out the zoom on your camera Very Happy

So, who's coming? SJC

First of all I'm new to this forum so hello everyone!

I went along to the speed trials last year. Was a great event - Perfect weather helped too!

I just wondered if anyone on here is thinking of running - I'm planning to go down as a spectator again but not sure about entering the event.

Would be good to see some fast jap cars tho. I remember a stock mr2 last year and a couple of very quick skylines!

i won't enter but i'm def going down there for this....
i found out the level of cars is proper impressive. mine would seem like little league. the skylines that do enter will most probably be many many hundreds of BHP and put mine to shame. looking forward to this day.

do they have hot girls leaning on all the bonnets hahahaha

Not hot girls last year. I don't remember any if there was...
GT-Art ran their Skyline last year but time wise the cars weren't all that mental. Don't know whether this is because of the road though. The times varied alot, some running 10's, others over 20 seconds. So I wouldn't not run because you think your car would be too slow. Thumbs Up!

To enter you have to be invited or belong to the brighton motor car club thingy, but think its still hard to get on it.

At College we were meant to be running a couple of cars but its not happenin due to 1 not being finished and the other we couldnt get on list i believe.

Times vary so much as there are old crooks that run down there, but theres also ferraris, lambos, skyline, supras, single seaters you name it. Think its why its so popular as theres such a varied lot to watch instead of loads of chavved up heaps doing 17,18,19 second runs.

I'll be down there as always with my fold out seat and a loads of beers Thumbs Up!
